Toddler Meal Ideas (Egg Allergy Friendly)

Over the last few months, I’ve received several messages asking for me to share meal ideas for toddlers. I get it – feeding a little one, especially a toddler can seem daunting. Can I be honest though? As much as I love sharing information with all of you – this was a topic that I dreaded touching on. Let me explain.

As parents, both Thaddeus and I were eager to introduce Nori to solids. I watched the calendar like a hawk, eagerly waiting for the 6 month mark to hit. When the moment finally came to feed Nori solids, her reaction was unenthusiastic, dare I say “disgusted”. I figured this reaction was normal since solids were foreign to her and to just give it some time.

Fast forward a few months later, Nori still showed a disdain for food. Most days, her plates went untouched. All she wanted was breast milk. As a first time mama, this was frightening. Why won’t my child eat? Is this normal? Is she getting enough calories? Enough protein? Will her lack of eating affect her brain development? These were all valid questions that ran through my mind. The advice from her pediatrician was to continue exposing her to different types of food and she will eat when she’s ready.

By 12-13 months, something finally clicked. Nori started showing interest in food and would eat most meals served. Although she still doesn’t clear her plate and has several days where she’d rather nurse than eat, she’s made such progress from where she was months ago.

So as you can see, this is why I was afraid to touch on the eating topic. While I may share meal idea’s on my Instagram story, I feared writing a blog post that could give the impression that my daughter was an excellent eater. I didn’t want to feel like a fraud. If I’m being honest, meal time gives me so much anxiety, even ’til this day. After some thought (and encouragement from Thaddeus), I realized I should be transparent and share this experience as many of you may be able to relate.

With that being said – over these last few months I’ve had to get creative in the kitchen. I’ve introduced Nori to a wide range of foods and finally nailed down some meals that she absolutely loves. Below I share her favorite breakfast, lunch and dinner meals + additional meal and snack ideas that even the most pickiest toddlers will love.

A few quick notes:

  • At 3 months, Nori was diagnosed with an egg allergy. We are working with her allergist to determine the best method for reintroducing eggs back into her diet. For this reason, none of the meals mentioned below will include eggs or egg by-products.
  • We made the decision to not introduce meat into Nori’s diet. We don’t follow a “vegan” diet, however the only animal products we offer are dairy (cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese) and seafood. We sometimes offer “vegan” meat, but we make sure to read the nutritional facts first. Vegan meat can have an extreme amount of sodium (especially for a toddler), so be sure to check the sodium levels before offering this substitute to your little one. If your toddler eats meat, many of the meals below can be adjusted to include it.
  • Nori is 15 months and her primary source of calcium is breast milk. We have not yet introduced cow or dairy-free milk.
  • We have practiced Baby-Led Weaning from Day 1. All meals suggested below are perfect for self-feeding little ones.

If you’re a mama struggling with these same experiences, don’t give up. Keep exposing your little one to new foods and don’t be afraid to reach out for help if you need it. There are tons of great resources that can help get your babe on the right track towards eating. ♡

Below are some of my favorite plates, utensils, bibs and more:

Kate Farms Pediatric Standard 1.2 Vanilla Formula Drink

At Nori’s 12 month appointment, I expressed my concerns about her eating with her pediatrician. She recommended PediaSure, however as a health conscious mama, I couldn’t bring myself to give her that. This product was shared on Instagram by a mama who was experiencing similar eating struggles with her little one and I instantly hopped online and ordered it.

It’s basically a “Vegan PediaSure” with much cleaner ingredients. I haven’t used it yet, but it gives me peace of mind having it on hand for the days Nori doesn’t want to eat. I thought I’d share in case any of you are looking for a healthier option to PediaSure.

I shared more about this product in my Instagram stories today. If you missed it, I’ll save all the videos to my “Nori Eats” highlight.

Bamboo Bamboo Plates

I feel like I’ve tried almost every toddler plate on the market. These plates by Bamboo Bamboo are hands down my favorite. The suction is the best and Nori hasn’t been able to lift the plate and tip it over.

It’s worth mentioning, if you purchase these plates, make sure you remove the plastic suction ring every time you wash the plate. I failed to do this (mom brain) and one day noticed what appeared to be possible mildew around the ring. I tossed the plate and ordered a new one, but thought I’d share to save another mama from wasting money like me.

Bella Tunno Bibs

I love how wide these bibs are. Also with the sale of every product, Bella Tunno gives one meal to one child in need.

Munchkin Raise 4 Count Toddler Fork and Spoon

Nori seems to eat better when I give her these utensils. It’s almost as if she’s determined to pick up every piece of food.

Re-Play Made in The USA 4pk No Spill Cups

This set is so aesthetically pleasing. I love the neutral tones. Nori is able to easily drink from these cups.

Re-Play Made in USA 4pk Straw Cups with Bendable Straw

Another favorite cup in our home. These are great for mama’s looking to transition their babes over to cups with straws. Nori hasn’t mastered leaving the straw *inside* the cup though, so I have to watch her closely when she uses these.

Leather Splat Mat – Waterproof Baby High Chair Floor Mat

This mat has helped cut cleaning time in half after every meal.

Bumkins Sleeved Bib

These smocked bibs are great for helping protect outfits, especially white ones!

Simba Premium Portable Safety Food Scissors

I never knew I needed these scissors until after I purchased them. I dread cutting food into a million tiny pieces and these scissors help save so much time.

They’re perfect to throw inside your diaper bag and will always come in handy if you order a meal for your toddler while you’re out.

Inglesina Fast Table Chair

This nifty little chair hooks onto most tables and is perfect to use in place of a highchair. In fact, more often than not, Nori eats most of her meals in this chair. It’s also perfect for using in restaurants once it’s safe to dine out again!

Disposable Placemats

Whenever we hook up the Inglesina Fast Table Chair to our kitchen island, we lay out one of these disposable placemats to protect the counter. We place her food directly on top and I love that the mats have various animals to keep her entertained. These placemats are also great to use in restaurants to help prevent your little one from touching the dirty tables.

* If this print isn’t your thing, there are tons of other options on Amazon!

Skip Hop Toddler Snack Cup

This was the first snack cup I ever purchased for Nori and it’s one of my absolute favorites. The sleek design makes it easy for her to stick her hand inside to retrieve snacks and I love that it’s spill-proof.

Peter Rabbit Organics Pouches

These are my favorite on-the-go pouches. They’re organic and made with limited ingredients. Nori never has an issue finishing them!

* Be sure to keep an eye on the sugar levels. We tend to opt for the flavors with the least amount of sugar.

Such a great post! Sorry to read about Nori’s egg allergy. I hope she grows out of it. Definitely ordering both cup sets! So pretty.

Love these ideas mama! So much variety. Leana has an egg intolerance & is currently on a nondairy & meat diet so I’m always looking for new meals for her to try. We definitely need those disposable mats & that floor may too! Thanks for sharing ❤
