This past weekend, TJ and I threw Nori a Toy Story themed party to celebrate her upcoming second birthday. While it was a special day to celebrate this milestone in her life, I couldn’t help but become emotional wondering where time had gone. It feels like yesterday that I was pacing my contractions while anxiously awaiting my baby girls arrival.
As her second birthday neared, I started bouncing ideas around in my head, but ultimately decided that Nori should have full control of the theme. At 23 months, she has so many interests, so I wanted the party to be a reflection of what SHE loved. I gave her a few options – Dinosaurs, Toy Story, and Peppa Pig, all of her current favorites. Without hesitation, she exclaimed “Buzz! Woody!”, so my quest for a “Toy Story” themed party began.
I spent a few days combing through Pinterest and Instagram for inspiration and came across a beautiful neutral Toy Story party thrown by Thread Mama. I instantly knew I wanted to recreate a similar party for Nori. I stuck with browns and neutral colors for most of the decor, while also incorporating many of the Toy Story characters throughout the party. I also went a little DIY crazy and made most of the decorations. I pulled many long nights working on everything, but I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. One of my favorite things about parties are the personal touches, so the time spent hand making many of the decorations was so worth it.
Below I’m sharing photos from the party along with details on the DIY projects.
Build your own Forky + Mr. Potato Head crafts:
I created the prints on Canva.com and purchased all materials from Michaels + Amazon. To create your own forky, you’ll need the following items (tap the image to shop):
For the Mr. Potato Head craft, I slightly followed this tutorial. Rather than printing out the various body parts on paper (which honestly would have saved so much time), I instead free handed them onto the construction paper and then cut them out. I included glue sticks for the kids to piece together their own version of Mr. Potato Head. Although it’s tedious, I recommend pre-cutting the pieces to save time (and it cuts down on the mess).
Neutral Balloon Garland:
The balloons are a collection of sizes and colors that I’ve purchased over the years. I followed this tutorial to create the garland. The Woody + Bo Peep print is from Thread Mama and I added the “Two Infinity & Beyond” wording to the top.
Toy Story Moving Boxes:
I grabbed some empty boxes from around the house to recreate the moving scene from Toy Story.
Buzz Lightyear Cupcake Toppers:
I photoshopped Nori’s face onto a Buzz Lightyear photo that I found on Google. I printed the photos at Walgreens on 4×6 prints. The cupcakes are from Pearl’s Bakery.
Nori’s beautiful cake is from Sweet Gypsy Dessert Design. I highly recommend her if you’re in the Hampton Roads area.
Drink Menu:
For most parties that I throw, I always include some sort of drink menu as a special touch. Given that the majority of guest were adults, I wanted to have drinks available for them. I opt’d for drink names that fit the “Space”/”Buzz Lightyear” theme. I created the menu on Canva.com.
Pizza Planet Boxes:
These boxes were honestly a labor of love. It was my first time using a Cricut machine and I failed – multiple times. In the end, I LOVE how they turned out, even if I was ready to give up haha.
Buzz Lightyear Jacket:
This jacket was another Cricut project. Again, my first time using a Cricut machine and learning about the “layering” technique. It surprisingly wasn’t that difficult – much easier than the pizza boxes!
Coloring Rocket:
I included an area for the kids to color a space rocket, which honestly was a game changer. It kept the little ones occupied and Nori was able to continue using it at home after the party. I made the sign and purchased the rocket from Oriental Trading.
That’s it for DIY’s! Below I’m sharing a few other photo’s from her birthday.
Happy 2nd birthday, baby girl. We love you! ♡

January 24, 2022 at 6:36 pmThank you!! I made the menu on Canva! You just select “Create A Design” > click on “Custom Size” and input a size that will fit your frame (if you plan to frame the menu), and then add the text/graphics.

January 28, 2022 at 9:42 amI had planned to make neutral invitations similar to the color scheme of the party, but ran out of time. I ordered this animated invite from Etsy and sent it out to guest via email/text which worked out perfect and was way more cost effective:

May 16, 2022 at 1:09 pmDoes she sale the prints? I can find them in her website
Brooke Angelique
May 16, 2022 at 9:43 pmHi Eloísa! I’m not 100% sure if she sells them. At the time that I found them, they were offered for free on her site. I would maybe shoot her an email or DM on Instagram to see if she’s still offering the prints.

April 24, 2023 at 10:21 amHi Brooke! Recreating a version of this party for my daughter’s 2nd birthday in a few weeks. Wondering where you were able to find the SVG for the back of the denim jacket?! My friend is using her cricut to help me make a similar jacket – I’ve looked everywhere and cannot find that particular SVG!
Amazing job on this gorgeous party.
Thanks so much!!
