For Nori’s second costume, I decided to recreate something to honor one of my favorite artists; Frida Kahlo, an influential Mexican painter. I’m honestly not sure if I’ve ever seen anything cuter. I mean, come on! Between the flower crown and the unibrow, I’m dead.
This costume is adorable, inexpensive to make, and can be made in under 20 minutes. What’s even better – the dress can be used multiple times after Halloween so you aren’t spending money on something that’s being worn once!
Hope you enjoy this costume as much as I did! Be sure to also check out my other two DIY costumes: DIY Baby Starbucks Frappuccino and DIY Baby Lion.
Let’s get started!
What You’ll Need:
For the materials listed below, clicking the name of the item will redirect you to Amazon if you wish to purchase any of them.
- Stretch Lace Headband
- Faux flowers
- Felt
- Scissors
- Hot Glue Gun/Glue Sticks
- Floral Dress
- 1/4 Yard Burgundy Fabric (More or less depending on child’s size)
- Eyebrow Pencil (Optional) – I opted for this organic brow pencil since it’s being used on such delicate skin. It’s made with nourishing Jojoba Oil and Shea Butter.
Step 1: Create the Floral Headband
- Remove the stems from the faux flowers.
- Cut out small circles from the felt and glue them onto the base of the flower. This is to create a soft base so that the bottom of the flower won’t scratch or poke your little one’s head.
- Glue the flowers onto the lace headband.
Step 2: Add a Unibrow (Optional)
- This step is optional, but will instantly transform your little one into Frida. Using an eyebrow pencil, lightly feather brow hairs in the center of their forehead.
That’s it! Dress your little one in a floral dress, drape the burgundy fabric across their shoulders and voilà, you have yourself a mini Frida Kahlo.
